Welo opals are hydrophane opals, meaning their porous internal structure allows them to absorb and release moisture. If exposed to water or other liquids for an extended period, the gemstone may temporarily become cloudy or change its appearance. During this time, its play of color may appear less vivid.
This is a completely natural and reversible characteristic of hydrophane opals. Once the stone has dried completely, the absorbed moisture gradually evaporates, allowing the opal to regain its original transparency, brilliant play of color, and natural luster.
